Expanding the exercises as much as I can. Flexibility is good (no “frozen shoulder” which is a blessing as it is apparently much harder to regain than retain flexibility) but movement is frustratingly limited. Back has been aching due to using more of those muscles to move. The exercise consists of about six different motions: loosening up the shoulder with passive motion movements with each arm at a time dangling down in front of me; pinching the shoulder blades together, holding and releasing, lifting the shoulders up in a shrugging motion; extending the arm front, 45 degrees and straight out to the side with the hand supported on the top of a stick about shoulder level; clockwise and counterclockwise circles with the same support; and with arms at my side bending each elbow (your basic biceps training move which because I haven’t had coffee I can’t recall what it’s called) which I was doing without weight but am doing now with 2 lb. weights.
Doesn’t seem like much but until the muscles get stronger these exercises will at least keep the shoulders from freezing up and do some good “reminding” them how they are supposed to work.
A slow slog… and I believe I will have a party on the day when I can finally shave the ‘pits again!

Keeping up with the home exercises.
I have noticed that I am indeed moving more (not better, extremely uncoordinated probably because the muscles that are pretty much toast still are, uh, toast) … tomorrow marks the month since this came on, now I’m aiming for the 2-3 month recovery and not the doctor-predicted up to 6 month, my attitude fluctuates from good to crappy every day.
Attitude being a big part of recovery, I’m thinking that some impatience is a good thing, too much might be detrimental. Keeping busy to keep my mind focused on the recovery seems to be key, until the body decides to respond with a little more mobility and muscle control.

More water therapy. Expanded scope of exercises somewhat exponentially on Mon.-Wed. so I think there may actually be progress. The focus is on strengthening the muscles so that I don’t get as fatigued… the result seems to be the opposite at least the day or two after therapy. (why am I not surprised?)… anyway… will keep this blog going until I’m back at 100 percent.
(edit) what do I mean “until?” I guess I mean that once I’m recovered, the blog will continue as my workout blog.

Have been on extreme crunch time at work so the workout blog has been ignored. Time reported is cumulative PT at home… have expanded strengthening exercises and flexibility exercises somewhat, though actual range of (possible) motion is slightly better progress seems very slow. Nerve damage is slow healing and is testing my patience. Actually, though, certain activities like driving and hair washing (I know) ARE getting somewhat less frustrating and difficult.
Fatigue is a problem on long days, I guess the muscles that are functioning are working overtime.
Progress is being made. More on the PT in another post.

Catching up on the log… Still doing just barely exercise as I wait for my nerves to heal enough to do “real” strength training and stretching. Tomorrow I have aquatherapy at the PT and I’m looking forward to it. Need to find out the water temps at the outdoor apartment pool and work pool as they may be too cool … 84 degrees is the appropriate temp for aquatherapy, as the warm water relaxes the muscles and makes the exercise soothing as well as more effective, apparently.
